Time Illuminated

My name is Tamara Masa and I am a Canada-based 35mm Film Photographer. I moved to Canada at the age of 6, and ever since then I have considered myself an interdisciplinary artist. In 2020, I was lucky to find two of my late grandfather’s film cameras (an Agfa Paramat and a Kodak Retina IIa) and instantly something sparked in me as I began my journey with 35mm film photography. My fascination with film photography comes from the need for delayed gratification in a time when instant gratification is the norm. Film photography requires patience because until the photo is developed, you really do not know exactly what it is that you have taken a photo of. Nowadays, with digital technology, we lack the patience and the desire to seek out the honest & natural.
